Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art is yet to be created! It is intended as a visitor-oriented museum of the new type, presenting itself not only as a knowledge repository but also as a knowledge generator where the visitor is no longer a passive consumer but rather an active co-contributor to the museum and its functioning.

More

The Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art aspires to become the most visited museum of contemporary art in the Baltic States in addition to evolving into a centre for culture and art with a cross-regional significance, with its exhibitions regularly featured in museum programmes overseas, by virtue of a unique collection that shall represent developments in arts and visual culture both in Latvia and in the Baltic Sea region starting from the 1960s onwards and on account of the museum’s capacity to arrange loans from private collectors.

By making attractive and alluring use of the myriad interactions between art and visual culture and their presence in everyday life, the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art seeks to become a popular public meeting place, where people would come to be inspired and educated, to pause for reflection and experience exchange. The museum shall aim to maintain a feel-at-home atmosphere and inspire a sense of belonging through its open-mindedness, creative spirit and intellectual joy ignited by contemporary art. Reflecting the cross-processes of contemporary art and visual culture in Latvia and, more broadly, in the Baltic Sea region has been selected as the most fitting focal point for the museum’s creative aspirations.
