ADULT LEARNERS WEEK
To celebrate Adult Learners Week from 1st to 4th September museums in Latvia will presenting a series of fun and fascinating events.
A special week long event - Adult Learners’ Week is being held for the fourth year, previously only in capital city Riga in turn this year the organizers would like to engage museums in reģions as well.
This year’s theme of the Adult Learners Week is Lifestyle during which various activities for adults and families – lectures, discussions, and workshops – will be offered in museums.
Adult Learners' Week will take place both in large National Museums as Latvian National Museum of Art and Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation but also in regional and city museums e.g. Kuldiga and Bauska regional museums, and at last in historic houses as Romans Suta and Aleksandra Belcova historic house.
The idea of Adult Learners' Week was adopted from the United Kingdom where a nation-wide week-long festival of learning is held each May. Latvian Adult Learner’s Week is aspiring to this standard.
Every year Adult Learners' Week in Latvia attracts more and more people and a larger number of museums offer tailored activities during this special week in September. The first Adult Learner’s Week event in 2008 was launched by the Latvian National Museum of Art which was followed by seven participating museums in the second year. Last year ALW embraced already 15 museums welcoming those interested in learning something new at this special occasion. This year the organizers hope to reach even higher participation level and look forward to increasing number of visitors.
More information on Adult Learners' Week, including the profiles of the respective museums, will be available on website http://www.muzeji.lv after August 15th.
