RĪGA STRADIŅŠ UNIVERSITY MUSEUM
Rīga Stradiņš University Museum is an educational and research unit of Rīga Stradiņš University (hereinafter RSU) in charge of documenting and preserving cultural heritage of the university (previously – Rīga Medical Institute, Medical Academy of Latvia) for future generations and exhibition of the museum collection.
Museum collection includes both material and non-material cultural and historical values (sound and audio-visual records, electronic documents, photographs etc.) related to the existence of Rīga Stradiņš University since 1950.
The museum was established on 4 September 2001 – on the day of the approval of the bylaws of the museum during the meeting of RSU Senate that include the main principles of operation and tasks.
Museum mission – to inspire prospective and current students to study at RSU and RSU employees – to work at RSU; to foster public awareness of Rīga Stradiņš University as one of the leading institutions of higher education in Latvia by preserving the historical heritage of the university since 1950 and making it accessible to the public. RSU Museum is one of the instruments for student recruitment and representation.
Aim of RSU Museum: to foster public awareness of Rīga Stradiņš University and student and employee loyalty by collecting, using, studying and exhibiting the collection of the museum and organising various events.
RSU prospective students,
current students and graduates,
RSU employees, especially those who use historical materials about the university in their academic work,
employees from other educational and research institutions,
guests of the university and other interested parties, such as pupils,
potential RSU employees – academic and administrative staff.
In 2013, permanent exhibition of RSU Museum was opened. The exhibition portrays the history of the university since 1950 in an interactive manner. It aims to tell a story through historic objects and facts, textual materials, photographs and video materials and address the visitors through emotions that arise viewing the room, its colours and installations. The exhibition serves as a source of inspiration for prospective and current students and a memory keeper for the graduates. It also fulfils the representative function for the guests of the university. The exhibition is located at 16 Dzirciema Street, Block K, Room 102.

The latest project of RSU museum – virtual exhibition of the history of RSU (history.rsu.lv) launched in 2016. The virtual exhibition features more than 1100 exhibits with annotations in Latvian and English – photographs, objects, document copies, newspaper articles, interviews with graduates and teachers, as well as sound and video materials.
RSU Museum offers an opportunity to use museum materials for research, exhibitions and presentations, as well as provides consultations. Museum collection is located in Riga, Anniņmuižas bulvāris 26a. Office hours – weekdays from 9.00 to 17.00. Rīga Stradiņš University is among the leading, modern and internationally-oriented institutions of higher education in the Baltic States. Year 2015 marked the 65th anniversary of the university and the 25th anniversary since the enrolment of first international students at RSU.
