Kārlis Skalbe museum “Saulrieti” also belongs to the union of 4 museums “Orisāre” of Vecpiebalga community.
“Saulrieti” has been a favourite summer resting place of writer Kārlis Skalbe for 18 years (1926 – 1944) which he has built for his family. His house is situated in Kārlis Skalbe native region Piebalga near his father`s house “Incēni”, and the writer could have a rest after the stressful urban life, get inspiration for his poems and stories from beloved area surrounded by beautiful lakes, forests and hills.
“Saulrieti” was built in an unusual style for Latvian countryside of that time, and it was called also – the castle of fairy tale king. And Kārlis Skalbe was the author of many fairy tales, full of wisdom, warm-heartedness and fine emotions.
In 1987 there was formed Kārlis Skalbe museum which is an opportunity to get some impression about the life of writer`s family and enjoy nature around it. On a picturesque hill near the house there is the burial place of Kārlis Skalbe, his wife Lizete Skalbe and their daughter Ilze Skalbe. A beautiful landscape from it helps to understand the writer`s world outlook and his soul.
