Antons Austriņš museum “Kaikaši” belongs to the union of 4 museums “Orisāre” of Vecpiebalga community.
“Kaikaši” has been a small village of farmers, weavers and spinning-wheel manufacturers near the local parish school and the house of Latvian book publisher Jānis Ozols. There can be seen some features of Piebalga region from the turn of 19 and 20th centuries, which are described in poems, stories and novels of Latvian writer Antons Austriņš.
Antons Austriņš spent his first 16 years in “Kaikaši”, and in spring and summer 1905 he was recovering there after shooting wounds he got during the demonstration in Riga on 13th January. Later he brings also his daughter Mudīte to his father`s house, and it becomes a significant place for Mudīte Austriņa who was exile writer and art and library worker. In 1991 she comes back to her fatherland and hands her collection of the sun articles to the museum, which is an interesting part of the exhibition.
