What can you see at Fridrih Cander’s – Space Exploring museum of Latvian University?
 
·         The biggest collection of meteorites in Baltic States. Also you can enjoy old astronomical instruments, star maps and old astronomy books.
·         Exhibition “40 years of Astronautics” will show you in detail the development of space exploration during last century. It will also give you information about the newest research and advances in this field. If it is requested before the visit via phone call, movies about space exploration can be demonstrated.
·         Main display is devoted to rigan Fridrih Cander, one of the first world’s rocket builder. Indeed it was in Riga where his first ideas of space travel came to life, and where he started independent research during his education at Riga Polytechnic institute (it was located in the current building of Latvian University) from 1907 till 1914. Exhibition tells about his life – from childhood till his greatest works and his death.
·         In the Astronomical Tower of Latvian University you can look through one of the largest telescopes currently available for public use in Latvia. During the daytime visitors can watch the Sun, but if the sky is clouded – best views of Old Riga.
·         Showing of stars at the Astronomy Tower of University of Latvia on Wednesday evenings during winter period (from 1st October until 1st April) starting from 7 pm. Showings are free of charge, but only on nights with clear sky.

Muzejā var apskatīt:

Baltijā lielāko meteorītu kolekciju. Iespējams aplūkot vecus astronomijas instrumentus, senas zvaigžņu kartes, vecas astronomiskas grāmatas.

Izstāde “Kosmonautikai – 40” detalizēti parādīs, kā noritējusi kosmosa apguve pagājušajā gadsimtā, un sniegs informāciju par jaunākajiem sasniegumiem kosmosa izpētē. Iepriekš piesakoties, muzejā iespējams skatīties kosmosa izpētei veltītas filmas.

Ekspozīciju, kas veltīta rīdziniekam Frīdriham Canderam – vienam no raķešbūves pamatlicējiem. Tieši Rīgā radušās viņa pirmās kosmisko lidojumu idejas un sākušies viņa patstāvīgie zinātniskie pētījumi. No 1907. līdz 1914. gadam viņš mācījies Rīgas Politehniskajā institūtā, kas toreiz atradās Latvijas Universitātes telpās – Raiņa bulvārī 19. Muzejā var iepazīties ar viņa dzīves gājumu un darbiem.

LU Astronomiskajā tornī ir iespēja ielūkoties vienā no diviem lielākajiem Latvijas teleskopiem, kas pieejami publikai. Dienas laikā, apmeklējot muzeju, var novērot Sauli, bet, kad apmācies – Rīgas skatus.

Zvaigžņu demonstrējumi LU Astronomijas tornī vakaros notiek pirmdienās un trešdienās ziemas periodā 19:00, 19:30, 20:00, 20:30, 21:00. Biļetes iespējams iegādāties LU 5 stāvā sākot no 18:30, grupām pieteikties iepriekš pa tālruni 26857624. Demonstrējumi notiek tikai skaidrā laikā.

Exhibition in the building of Latvian University (located in 19 Raiņa Boulevard) is opened for visitors since February 2005. Visitors of the Museum can also visit Astronomical tower.
Ticket price for daytime visit – 1,00 Ls. For schoolchildren, students and senior citizens – 0,50 Ls. For the students of Latvian University admission is free.
