Munchausen's Museum

Museum dedicated to Karl Friedrich Hieronymus von Munchhausen, the famous master of fantasy, is a cannonball shot away from Riga (55 km). It is a museum – a dream full of joy and wit. Museum’s permanent historical exposition ‘Munchhausen’s world’ offers visitors the opportunity to get to know the baron as Prince Anton Ulrich’s page in Ukrainian steppe and Russian court, as an army officer, loving husband, passionate hunter and enthusiastic storyteller – as someone keenly enjoying his life without losing his ability to laugh at himself and others, see the world that is different.
Museum hosts the biggest waxwork collection in Latvia ‘Prominent figures in the history of Latvia’ displayed on the 2nd floor.
Visitors can try and reach the sea and enter into the spirit of Muchhausen’s adventures by setting out on a walk down the longest aspen footbridge trail in the whole of Europe. Children can try their hand at visiting the largest wooden amusement ship in Latvia.
