Latvian War Museum

The Latvian War museum, founded in 1916 as a museum of the Latvian Rifleman, is now one of the country’s greatest and oldest museums. Since 1919, the museum has been housed in the Powder Tower, one of 25 ancient Riga’s fortifications (14th cent.). There are permanent exhibitions devoted to Medieval and Modern history, World War I and World War II, the German and Soviet occupations and of the route to independence in 1918 and much later in 1991. The museum has rich collections of weapons, photographs, documents, awards, uniforms and much more.
